End of Tenancy Cleaning Checklist: Get Your Deposit Back

Failing an end of tenancy inspection is one of the most common causes of deposit deductions — and most of it comes down to cleaning. Landlords and letting agents across Cambridgeshire use detailed inventory checklists, and they will spot every oven splatter, limescale ring and dusty skirting board.

Kitchen: This is where most deposits are lost. The oven must be degreased inside and out — including the racks and glass door. Wipe inside all cupboards and drawers, clean the hob, descale the kettle and clean the inside of the microwave, fridge and freezer (defrost first). Don’t forget the extractor fan filter.

Bathroom: Descale the shower head, taps and tiles. Remove all mould from grout and silicone. Clean the inside of the toilet thoroughly including the u-bend. Polish mirrors and chrome fittings until streak-free.

Living areas and bedrooms: Vacuum all carpets thoroughly and treat any stains. Steam clean if the property came with steam-cleaned carpets. Dust and wipe all surfaces, skirting boards, door frames and light switches. Clean inside all wardrobes and drawers.

Windows: Clean all interior windowsills, frames and glass. Remove any condensation mould from window frames.

Final checks: Remove all personal belongings including anything in the loft, garage or shed. Take the bins out. Return all keys.
